COC LY MARKET Coc Ly market is held every Tuesday of the week. Although the market's size is not too large, the market itself is very meaningful and important to the ethnic groups that live around. This market is not only a place to buy, sell and exchange goods but also a place for the Flower Mong, Black Dao, Nung and so on to come, meet, or hang out. The goods on sale are produced locally. Settling right next to the romantic Chay river, Coc Ly market has the typical bustling atmosphere of a highland market. The name Coc Ly also means Goc Man (The Plum Trunk), and the wild features embracing it still remain intact despite growing tourism. Ethnic peoples who live around the area come to the market not only to trade but also to meet and exchange conversations after a week of not seeing each other. Perhaps that is why, unlike the fairs in the delta, Coc Ly market gives its participants and visitors the feeling that they are enjoying a festival of ethnic peoples in the Northwest mountainous region. Visiting the Coc Ly upland market will give you the opportunity to better understand the daily life of the people in the Northwest region of Vietnam. BAC HA MARKET Bac Ha Market takes place every Sunday, starting at 6 am and ending at 2 pm. Bac Ha market is one of the largest markets in Lao Cai with a bustling atmosphere radiating the whole region. Coming to Bac Ha, you will experience different sales areas and enjoy many of its traditional dishes. This place is not only a place to buy, sell and exchange goods, but it also focuses on the quintessence and cultural characteristics of the Tay and Nung minority locals, and of course of the Flower Hmong people with their pearl-sparkling wedding dresses. In all 7 days of a week, different ethnic minority peoples here only hold the market on Sunday where they come to meet others, to exchange news, and to trade goods. The market is right in the center of Bac Ha town and can be reached in only 2 hours 45 minutes by car from Sapa and 2 hours by private car from Lao Cai station. CAN CAU MARKET Fair is a form of traditional market that has existed for generations among some ethnic minority groups, such as Tay, Nung and Flower H'Mong. Can Cau fair is held every Saturday and starts from early morning until around 1pm. It is one of the few markets that still retain the beauty of traditional markets in Northwestern Vietnam. Can Cau is also a busy market bordering China, a beautiful location surrounded by marvelous mountains. Here, you can easily find and buy nearly everything, from souvenirs to herbs grown or foraged by the local people and handicrafts carefully hand-made by them.
